Niccolò Palomba
The right tool for the story.
I started shooting film at ten, with a Zenit reflex: heavy, big, slow for a child. Early on it taught me that there is no perfect medium, only the right tool and language for the story you want to tell. Which tool and which language a film needs is the question I ask myself on every job, and sometimes the answer is more uncomfortable than expected: the right tool doesn’t exist yet, so it has to be built.

Building the Image
My relationship with image-making has never been limited to filming. From restoring cameras to designing optical tools, from documentary archives to software for filmmakers, I have always understood photography as one single thing.
